The Road to Lough Swilly composed and arranged by Michael Holohan will be performed on 31st July at 8p.m. at Beaulieu House & Gardens, Drogheda, Co. Louth. Wine reception to follow performance. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy an historical depiction of important events in the life of the 2nd Earl of Tyrone, Hugh O’Neill. The movements make use of traditional Irish music forms including reels, jigs, slip jigs and slow airs. Composed for a soloist Uilleann pipes and string orchestra the concert will feature Mick O’Brien on uilleann pipes with the RTE ConTempo Quartet and the Boyne Valley Chamber Orchestra. There are five memorials also, Marching to Drogheda, Sweet Dooley Gate, The Return from Fingal, Dark Lochnagar and the Bonny Light Horseman.
Beaulieu House & Gardens itself is a treat to visit. A rare example of a late 17th century Irish mansion, overlooking the River Boyne it offers a wonderful ambience for the evening’s musical treat. More information on Beaulieu House: beaulieuhouse.ie/a-short-history-of-beaulieu/
