Drogheda in the mid seventeenth century

Our second Autumn lecture – originally scheduled in May – will be given by Dr Eamon Darcy, a former Research Ireland awardee who is based at Maynooth University.

Eamon’s PhD thesis investigated the 1641 rebellion in Ireland. He was the recipient of a postdoctoral award to research Oral and Literate Culture in Early Modern Ireland. He is the author of The Irish Rebellion of 1641 and the Wars of the Three Kingdoms, published in 2013, and he co-edited The 1641 Depositions and the Irish Rebellion with Dr Elaine Murphy and Dr Annaleigh Margey.

In this lecture, Eamon will be speaking about Drogheda in the seventeenth century.

The lecture will be held in the Boyne Valley Hotel in Drogheda (Eircode A92 EY89) on Thursday 3 December 2026 at 8 p.m.

All are welcome. Voluntary donations at the door are welcome to support the work of the Society.
