Grand Jury Records as a historical source for County Louth

The recording of this lecture is now available at:

The speaker for this lecture is Dr Jim Ryan, a writer and publisher who has been active in Irish genealogy for the past 35 years.

In this lecture, he will discuss the Grand Jury records for Co. Louth. The Grand Juries, made up of the major landowners in each county, were largely responsible for the public administration of each county from the mediaeval period until the late nineteenth century when they were replaced by the County Councils. Their surviving records form a valuable resource for historical and genealogical study.

The lecture will be held in the Gateway Hotel (formerly the Crowne Plaza) in Dundalk (Eircode A91 EF88) on Thursday 20 November 2025 at 8 p.m.

All are welcome. Voluntary donations at the door are welcome to support the work of the Society.
